• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone alert for a weather system over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify into a depression on 24 October, a deep depression on 25 October, and a cyclonic storm by 26 October.
• The system is forecast to move west-northwestwards and approach the Andhra Pradesh coast by 28 October.

Impact & Risks

The cyclone is likely to cause localised flooding, waterlogging, and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Strong winds may damage infrastructure, including thatched houses, power lines, and coastal agricultural land. Urban centres could face reduced visibility and road connectivity issues due to heavy rainfall. Coastal areas are at risk of inundation, and maritime activities may be severely affected.
